Tia’s feeling lost. The 10 year-old Syrian refugee is trying to start a new life in Montreal, but nothing is working out. Tia’s summer changes when she finds a magic portal. It transports her to the Arctic tundra. There, she befriends Piujuq, an Inuk girl her age, camping with her grandmother. As she uses the portal to go on adventures with Piujuq, she becomes more and more confident. But strange things begin to occur. It’s as if a mysterious force follows her. That “something “or “someone” threatens Tia’s return to Montreal. The girls immerse themselves in a world of Inuit myth and magic, using all their bravery and smarts to bring Tia back home.
